Due to impacts of Hurricane Helene, Elk Knob State Park is closed until further notice.
The park remain closed until park staff are able to assess the damage and determine that it is safe to reopen. The Mountain Monarch Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, has been cancelled.
All state parks west of I-77 are closed through at least Oct. 31, 2024.
Most October events and field trips at all state parks across North Carolina have also been cancelled as the division works on post-storm recovery. Visit ncparks.gov/closures for more information.
