Swim Beach & Lake Shore Trail Head Parking Lot Closures: June 23rd - 24th    

Lake Norman State Park will be repainting parking lots on June 23rd - 24th.

Expect changes at Swim Beach and Lake Shore Trail head parking off Shortleaf Drive. 

Access the Lake Shore Trail from Boat Launch Rd. 

Please be patient and follow posted signs and cones. WET PAINT!

Current status of park facilities   

The visitor center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and 9 am to 6 pm Friday, Saturday, & Sunday.

There are limited boat rentals available on the weekends.

The swim beach is open and will start charging a swim fee on Friday 6/18/21. Adults = $6, Children 3-12 = $4, Infants 0-2 = No Charge. The swim beach only accepts cash, so if you plan to pay with a credit card, please visit the Visitor Center first to pay and bring your receipt to the swim beach to get your wrist band. When there are no lifeguards on duty there is no charge and you swim at your own risk. 

Hiking trails, boat ramp, and restroom facilities are open. Bike trails are open, weather permitting. 

Indoor facalities such as Community Building, Auditoriums, and Classrooms are open for reservations through the Visitor Center only. Indoor facalities are limited to 50 people per reservation/event.

Outdoor facalities such as Shelters are open for reservations. Shelters are limited to 50 -100 people per reservation/event. 

Family campsites and group campsites are open for reservations. Visit the reservations website or call 1-877-722-6762 to make a reservation. Reservations for available campsites may be made on the day of arrival up to 7:00 pm. Reservations for available cabins may be made on the day of arrival up to 6:00 pm.

Please note that this alert is updated only when something changes. Generally, state parks are following the phased reopening statewide. As of May 19th, we are following Executive Order 215.

Lake Norman State Park

Lake Norman State Park, on the largest manmade lake in North Carolina, boasts one of the region’s more popular mountain biking network, offering 30.5 miles of single-track trail. Nearby are a 125-yard-long swim beach and bathhouse complex as well as a boat ramp and opportunities for fishing from spots along park trails. A family campground with 32-sites and a group campground are available during warm-weather months, and a community building with kitchen facilities, restrooms and fireplace can be rented for family and group events year-round. Free interpretive programs are complemented by educational exhibits throughout the visitor center and along the child-friendly Dragonfly Trail.
