Temporary Employment

Temporary and seasonal jobs are available at most state parks and recreation areas, with varying durations of employment to include more opportunities during our peak season. A variety of opportunities are available, including park attendants, lifeguards, office assistants, naturalists, maintenance workers, and groundskeepers.

Job Information

The General Utility Worker (GUW) position works 40 hours a week, with weekend and holiday work required. Work term is up to 11 months.

The pay is $15 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

GUWs are generally responsible for facility and grounds maintenance. This includes cleaning bathrooms, picking up litter, emptying trash cans, mowing and trimming grass, trail maintenance, and assisting park staff on other park projects. This position will be working closely with the maintenance staff but should be able to work unsupervised.

Requirements and Qualifications

In this position, you will be required to drive a park vehicle, so you must have a valid driver's license.

Job Information

The Park Technician position works 40 hours a week, with evening, weekend and holiday work required. Work term is 6 months.

The pay is $17 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

Park Technicians are responsible for developing and leading environmental education programs; assisting with natural resource management projects; providing information and directions to park visitors; selling concessions; issuing camping permits; assisting with any park maintenance or improvement projects; and cleaning park facilities. This position will work closely with the park rangers.

Job Information

The Visitor Center Fee Collector position has a work schedule that varies up to 40 hours weekly, with weekend and holiday work required. The position lasts for up to 6 months. Many of these positions start in May and run into September, but a few fee collectors will start earlier in the spring and stay later into the fall.

The pay is $15 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Visitor Center Fee Collectors include. but are not limited to: courteously serving the public; keeping accurate inventory of rentals; keeping accurate track of money and sales; and completing end-of-day paperwork and inventories. Positions are also responsible for cleaning public restrooms, picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, and notifying rangers of emergencies and rule violations in their assigned area. Work is mainly indoors but will have some outdoor duties and includes exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, and other environmental conditions.

Job Information

The park has several Lifeguard positions and one Chief Lifeguard position. Work term is 3 to 4 months (Memorial Day through Labor Day / May through September).

Work schedule for Lifeguards varies from 32 to 40 hours per week, with weekend and holiday work required.

The pay is $17 per hour for Lifeguards and $19 per hour for Chief Lifeguard.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of lifeguards include, but are not limited to: the proper operation of the swim beach area and for effectively working with other lifeguards to ensure duties are carried out properly, promptly, and courteously. Lifeguards must ensure a safe environment in and out of the water for all park visitors, including notifying rangers of emergencies and rule violations in the swim beach area. Lifeguards will also assist with sales of concessions; clean the bathhouse, beach picnic area, and beach area facilities; and maintain the grounds in the vicinity of the swim beach. Work is outdoors and includes exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, and other environmental conditions.

The Chief Lifeguard in addition to above duties, assists the Ranger in general supervision of other Lifeguards.

Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants must have current Lifeguard certification. Lifeguards will interact with the general public daily. They must have a positive attitude and a willingness to work. Lifeguards will periodically perform duties that may involve lifting, carrying and moving moderately heavy objects.

Job Information

The park has several Fee Collector positions and a Bathhouse Manager. Work term is 3 to 4 months (Memorial Day through Labor Day / May through September).

Work schedule varies from 32 to 40 hours per week, with weekend and holiday work required.

The pay is $15 per hour for Fee Collectors and $17 per hour for the Bathhouse Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for fee collection at the swim beach.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: courteously serving the public; keeping accurate inventory of snacks/drinks and track of money and sales; and completing end-of-day paperwork and inventories. Fee Collectors are also responsible for cleaning public bathrooms, picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, and notifying rangers of emergencies and rule violations in the swim beach areas.

The Bathhouse Manager, in addition to above duties, assists the Ranger in general supervision of other Fee Collectors.
