Partial reopening Thurs, Sept 20

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area has been closed due to Hurricane Florence. Kerr Lake partially reopened on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at a limited capacity. The lake level is 308.75 and appears to have crested, which is a little lower and quicker than earlier predictions. Flooding is extensive and the majority of campsites and many other facilities have been closed through 9/26/18.  Park personnel had to remove electrical boxes from many electric sites and take other precautions to protect facilities. Personnel will evaluate impacts on Monday, 9/24/18 and Tuesday, 9/25/18 to determine if more facilities can reopen by next weekend.

The North Carolina Reservation System call center is currently contacting customers with reservations on impacted sites. Customers affected by the flooding can get a full refund or transfer their reservation.

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is a collective of seven access areas scattered around the shoreline of this 50,000-acre reservoir that reaches into Virginia. Hundreds of campsites among five of the access areas offer a range of outdoor experience from RV hookups to group camps. There are several swim beaches in the recreation area and multiple boating ramps, some offering 24-hour access with a few reserved for campers. Two private marinas serve boaters and the lake is renowned for excellent fishing. An extensive boat ramp facility at the Nutbush Access is suitable for fishing tournaments. A community building is a popular venue for family or community gatherings.
