Flooding at Kerr Lake

Kerr Reservoir rose sharply in response to heavy rain that fell in the Roanoke River Basin last week.  It crested at 310.5' on Monday, November 20th, which is about 11 feet above normal.   It is predicted to fall slowly over the next week.  Unfortunately, several campsites and boat ramps operated by NC Division of Parks and Recreation are flooded and currently unusable at this time. Customers that have reserved impacted facilities this week are being contacted by park staff or call center staff.

The following facilities are closed due to flooding:

J.C. Cooper Campground:  Campsites 1, 3, 5, 7, 13, 15, 19, 21, 30, 32, 33, 34A, 34B, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41D

Nutbush Area 3:  Campsites 51 through 61, 87, 88, 94, 95, 101, 102, 108 and 109

Picnic Shelters
Satterwhite Point Shelter #1

Boat Ramps
The only boat ramps open on the N.C. portion of Kerr Lake are the boat ramps at Nutbush Area 2 and County Line.  The rest are flooded.

Note:  The bridges on Anderson Creek Rd., Jacksontown Rd. and Nutbush Rd. are closed due to flooding.

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is a collective of seven access areas scattered around the shoreline of this 50,000-acre reservoir that reaches into Virginia. Hundreds of campsites among five of the access areas offer a range of outdoor experience from RV hookups to group camps. There are several swim beaches in the recreation area and multiple boating ramps, some offering 24-hour access with a few reserved for campers. Two private marinas serve boaters and the lake is renowned for excellent fishing. An extensive boat ramp facility at the Nutbush Access is suitable for fishing tournaments. A community building is a popular venue for family or community gatherings.
