Current Status of Park Facilities   

The Visitor Center is open from 9am-5pm daily.

The Visitor Center, restrooms, Lake Shore trail, and most reservable facilities are currently open. 
Bike trails are open weather permitting.

Please continue to follow social distancing guidelines throughout the park, regardless of the behavior of others.

  • From the intersection of Old Mountain Road and East Monbo Road in the Troutman area, travel south approximately 4.3 miles on East Monbo Road to St. Johns Road. Turn left onto St. Johns Road and go 0.5. mile to State Park Road. Follow the signs for the campgrounds.

  • Canoes, pedal boats, kayaks, and paddleboards are available for rent daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The boats are rented on a first-come, first-served basis and we are not able to reserve them.

Lake Norman State Park

Lake Norman State Park, on the largest manmade lake in North Carolina, boasts one of the region’s more popular mountain biking network, offering 30.5 miles of single-track trail. Nearby are a 125-yard-long swim beach and bathhouse complex as well as a boat ramp and opportunities for fishing from spots along park trails. A family campground with 32-sites and a group campground are available during warm-weather months, and a community building with kitchen facilities, restrooms and fireplace can be rented for family and group events year-round. Free interpretive programs are complemented by educational exhibits throughout the visitor center and along the child-friendly Dragonfly Trail.

Campground hosts needed

Lake Norman State Park is looking for campground hosts for 2023 and beyond. Please contact Ranger Frances Cassarino at 704-528-6350 ext. 205 or at frances.cassarino@ncparks.gov for more information.
 

24-hour gate access for campers

Campers with reservations can use the entrance on St. Johns Road to access their campsite 24 hours a day. From the intersection of Old Mountain Road and East Monbo Road in the Troutman Area, travel south approximately 4.3 miles on East Monbo Road to St. Johns Road. Turn left onto St. Johns Road and go 0.5 mile to State Park Road. Take a right on State Park Road and follow the signs to your campground.
