Temporary and seasonal jobs are available at most state parks and recreation areas, with varying durations of employment to include more opportunities during our peak season. A variety of opportunities are available, including park attendants, lifeguards, office assistants, naturalists, maintenance workers, and grounds keepers.

Description of Work
This is non-skilled work in the food service operations of a state park. Employees assist higher level personnel in preparation of food. Employees are responsible for accurate portioning and serving of food as well as maintaining high sanitation standards in their assigned work areas. Employees may function as assistants to higher level food service personnel in areas of cooking, baking, meat cutting or in clean-up operations. Work is reviewed by a higher-level employee for adherence to sanitation standards and completion of assignments.

The Food Service Assistant position is responsible for:
- Basic food service that includes pot washing, dish machine, nourishment, etc.
- Dining room set up and break down
- Breakfast preparation
- Cleaning detail
Description of Work
The Haw River State Park Housekeeping position supports the mission of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources by ensuring a safe, comfortable, clean and sanitary environment for visitors and staff. This position performs housekeeping duties on a daily basis. Work to include complete cleaning and sanitation of assigned areas. Position performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the care and cleaning of motel-style cottage rooms, conference meeting facilities, offices, restrooms, and other campus buildings. Must be able to work independently with verbal instructions from the supervisor or as a team member on assignments. Duties include dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and other general tasks as assigned. Assist in facility clean up in emergency situations in accordance with M&O procedures.
Job Summary
The Housekeeper position is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment for visitors and staff at Haw River State Park, contributing to a safe, healthy atmosphere. As a Housekeeper, you will play a critical role in creating a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our visitors and staff. You will be responsible for cleaning:
- Cottage rooms
- Conference meeting rooms
- Restrooms
- Offices
- Public Spaces
Work must be done in accordance with established infection prevention protocols and cleaning standards. Much of the work is performed independently, but you will also be part of a team and must be willing to be a team player. We expect that you will be pleasant, courteous, and thoughtful around staff and visitors.
Our mission is to facilitate safe and fun outdoor “experiences” for all ages, while fostering a better understanding and appreciation for the environment.
We’re seeking individuals with experience working with children in an outdoor setting, who are dedicated to connecting children with nature. When hiring we look for creative, fun and high-energy individuals to become Summit Instructors. Summit Instructors work with children ages 7 to 18. The Summit offers programming ranging from 1-day experiences up to 3-day/2-night residential stays for school groups and youth organizations. Programs we offer include Piedmont Wildlife, Animal Adaptations, Wilderness Survival, Orienteering, Teambuilding, Soils, Forest Bathing, Box Turtle Biology, Dendrology and Wetlands Ecology.
The Summit team also engages adult groups through teambuilding programs, Grand Camps and public events. We will be hosting our fifth annual Park in the Dark, family Halloween event in mid-October with nocturnal environmental activities, costumes, and night hikes. This event is growing each year and is becoming a staff favorite.

The EE instructor positions are seasonal positions with the NC State Park System. A four-year degree is required for consideration and two years relevant experience. Projected start date is mid-May, ending November 23rd, 2026, with the potential of re-hire in February 2027. Your employment will include a salary of $18/hr. with a guaranteed 40-hour work week.
