Swim beach OPEN    

The swim beach is open for the season from 10 am until 6 pm.  There will be a fee when lifeguards are on duty  $5 for ages 13 and up; $4 for ages 3-12.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day the Concession Stand will be open 7 days a week from 10 am until 6 pm.  Canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals will be available from 10 am until 4:30 pm.  Boat rental fees are $5.00 per hour.

Seasonal position / Campground Hosts needed   

Seasonal Position
Lake James State Park is looking to fill a concession stand position to work from August 1st through the end of October.  This position will be required to work weekends, including Labor Day weekend.  If interested please stop by park office for an application.

Campground Hosts
Lake James State Park is looking for individuals or couples to serve as “live-in” host at park campground. Register campers, provide information and explain rules and regulations. Perform light maintenance work around the campground such as picking up litter, cleaning and stocking toilet facilities, cleaning campsites and selling firewood. This position requires working weekends, holidays and evening hours. Your campsite, with full RV hook-ups, provided free of charge while you volunteer.  For more information contact Ranger Jamie Cameron at 828-584-7728.

Bike Trails are OPEN today.   

The mountain bike trails at Lake James are OPEN today.  The direction of the mountain bike trails was changed on July 1st.  The Wimba trails are going in a counter clockwise direction and Tindo trails are going in a clockwise direction.  Please contact the park for the most up-to-date trail status.

Lake James State Park

Lake James State Park offers a full menu of activities. Along with boating, swimming and fishing in the beautiful, clear waters of the 6,812-acre lake, there are 25 miles of trails, 15 of which are open to mountain biking. Trails vary from the short, educational Holly Discovery Trail with child-friendly activities, to the more adventurous, historic section of the Overmountain Victory Trail. There are three campgrounds. The Catawba River Area has 20 walk-in campsites, many of which offer lake views. The Paddy’s Creek Area has 33 drive-to, family-friendly campsites. The remote boat-in campground on the Long Arm Peninsula offers a true outdoor adventure for those willing to paddle or steer their canoes, kayaks or powerboats to their own slice of heaven. Boat ramps at Hidden Cove and Canal Bridge on NC 126 are located between the park’s two day-use areas. And, canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals are available at the Paddy’s Creek Area concession stand from May through September.
