The Kron family lived near Morrow Mountain in the mid- to late-19th century. Francis Kron was renowned as the region's first medical doctor and also served the community in other capacities. Tour the family homesite with park staff and learn about their unique place in Stanly County history. Drop ins are welcome from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. No advanced registration is required.

Our park staff will be leading a guided hike on the Quarry Trail, which is our designated TRACK Trail. This is an easy and family-friendly hike that will cover the geology of the Uwharries, and the history of the CCC at Morrow Mountain State Park. We will utilize many of the informative and interactive brochures provided by the Kids In Parks organization.

Help us celebrate Kip and Track for National TRACK Trails Day! We’ll be going on an easy, 0.5-mile hike in the woods.

Join park staff for a guided bird walk along the shores of Lake Tillery and part of the Fall Mountain Trail. This is one of the best spots at Morrow Mountain State Park to view Bald Eagles and Ospreys fishing for their next meal. Birdwatchers of all experience levels and abilities are welcome to attend.

Bring your binoculars and a camera if you have one. It will be a great opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Bird checklists and field guides will be provided to help with bird identification. Be prepared to hike up to one and half miles over uneven ground. We will meet at the

Are you a mycology enthusiast? Meet local naturalist, Ken Crouse, at 9:30am to learn about and forage for mushrooms found here at Rendezvous Mountain. The program is scheduled to last until 11:30am, so feel free to bring lunch and picnic afterwards! To register, please email rendezvous.mountain@ncparks.gov.

If you enjoy learning about local history, then we have the thing for you! Take a short, yet somewhat steep, walk with Ranger Matheson to check out the fire tower and the Civilian Conservation Corps cabin here in the park. This program is for most ages and will be meeting at the Ranger Office at 10:00am!

Attention all nature lovers! If you’ve ever been curious about fungi and wanted to learn more about identifying mushrooms, come join us on this half-mile hike! We’ll explore the American Beech Trail and put on our fungi caps to try to ID as many mushrooms as we can. Meet at the picnic shelter.

Come spend some time at Rendezvous Mountain walking the Forest Ridge Trail!  This is an informal program geared towards families with children ages four to eight as we’ll be reading "The Very Impatient Caterpillar".  Park Tech Abbie will be leading the 0.6 mile walk at 9:00am.

Come join the Chimney Rock State Park Rangers to hike the 1.5 miles moderate trail.  The Rumbling Bald Trail is a loop trail that meanders through a beautiful hardwood forest along the south face of Rumbling Bald Mountain, revealing huge boulder fields and the base of the cliff areas.  Park Rangers will lead an unique educational topic each weekend.
