Status of Park Facilities at New River State Park

New River State Park is continuing recovery efforts post-Hurricane Helene. Some accesses and campsites are open while others remain closed.

The park recently completed a major repair contract and has successfully reopened all river access points for paddlers to enter and exit the river. As for the primitive “paddle-in” campsites along the river, some repair work is still underway. Our team continues to assess and restore these sites for safe use. Campsites at the Wagoner and Allegheny accesses remain closed, Wagoner due to no potable water, and Allegheny due to excessive debris. The pump house at Wagoner is designed and now being bid for construction, and the contract is underway for debris removal, but that may take several more months to complete.

Visitors should pay close attention to onsite signage and not attempt to access areas that remain closed. Facilities that remain closed continue to have major safety hazards.
