Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources has awarded more than $11 million authorized by the General Assembly in grants to communities and nonprofits in western North Carolina from Great Trails State Program funding. Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources has awarded more than $2.6 million to trail development and restoration projects in eastern North Carolina. These funds were authorized by the General Assembly as part of the Great Trails State Program.

The $13.7 million will fund capital improvements projects at 11 state parks.

The $17.4 million will fund nine capital improvements projects and six land acquisitions.

39 Local Communities to Receive Funding for Park Expansion and Restoration

A gift of more than $1 million from Ms. Barbara Rose McIntyre to the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund will be directed to projects including restoration, education and accessibility for children. 

The Parks and Recreation Authority has awarded three local park projects a total of $491,893 in grants from the bequest of Ms. Barbara McIntyre to the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF). All three selected projects are in Tier 1 Counties. Local park-project proposals from across the state were evaluated based on inclusion of child-focused facilities and activities, ADA accessibility, and environmental education.
