Flooding at Kerr Lake   

The water level at Kerr Reservoir is rising in response to heavy rain that has fallen in the Roanoke River Basin this week.  It has risen 4+ feet since Monday, November 11th and is currently projected to crest around 309.5’ m.s.l. on Monday, November 19th, which is about 10’ above normal.  The lake level could go higher depending on how much rain falls on Thursday, November 15th.

The following facilities are closed due to flooding:

J.C. Cooper Campground:  Campsites 1, 3, 5, 7, 19, 30, 33, 34A, 34B, 37, 39, 40 and 41D

Nutbush Area 3:  Campsites 51-61, 88, 95, 102, 108 and 109

Campers with weekend reservations on these campsites are being contacted by park staff.

The bridges on Jacksontown Rd. and Nutbush Rd. are closed due to flooding.

Directions

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is located in Vance and Warren counties, north of Henderson. It can be reached via US 1, NC 39 or I-85. On I-85, the exits for the individual recreation areas are marked. Follow the brown signs to the individual recreation area of your choice.

To Satterwhite Point and park office From I-85, take exit 217 and travel north on Satterwhite Point Road. The park office is on the right. Satterwhite Point Road dead-ends in the park.

Henderson Point, Hibernia and Nutbush Bridge are located off NC 39. On I-85, NC 39 is exit 214. To reach Henderson Point, follow NC 39 approximately 13.5 miles north of I-85 and turn right onto Rock Spring Church Rd. Turn right again onto Rev. Henderson Rd. To reach Hibernia, travel approximately 12.5 miles north of I-85 and turn right onto Hibernia Rd. To reach Nutbush Bridge, turn right onto Nutbush Road about 4.5 miles north of I-85.

Bullocksville, County Line and Kimball Point can be reached off exit 223 (Manson Rd.). Take Manson Rd. west to Drewry crossroads. For Bullocksville, go straight through the crossroads onto Bullocksville Park Rd. For County Line, turn right at Drewry onto Drewry-Va. Line Rd. Go about three miles and then turn left onto Buchanan's Store Rd., right onto County Line Rd. and right again onto County Line Park Rd. For Kimball Point, turn right at Drewry. Follow Drewry-Va. Line Rd. for 4.5 miles and then turn left onto Kimball Point Rd.

The day use areas at Bullocksville, Henderson Point Shelter 1 and Satterwhite Point are open year-round. All other day use areas are closed late October – late March. The Henderson Point day use area for shelter 2, shelter 3 and the community building is closed late October – late March but will be opened for groups who rent the community building or the shelters.

County Line, Henderson Point, Hibernia and Nutbush have 24-hour boat ramp facilities open year-round. All other day use areas are closed and locked at park closing time.

Park Hours - Campgrounds
J.C. Cooper Campground at Satterwhite Point and Nutbush are open for camping year-round and have 24 hours access. All other campground areas are closed and locked at park closing time.

Other Campground gate hours are as follows:
March, April and October: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
May – September: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
