Mountain Bike Trails are OPEN today.

The mountain bike trails at Lake James are OPEN today. Please feel free to contact the park for the most up-to-date trail status if date stamp is more than 24 hours old.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area
Winter campground

Parker's Creek campground is the campground open for the winter months.   Loops 1 & 2 are reservations only and loop 4 is a first come first serve loop.

Chimney Rock State Park
Chimney Rock Access Reopening Fully on November 22

Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park will fully reopen to the public on Wednesday, November 22. Visitors will be able to hike all trails and access both Chimney Rock itself and the top of Hickory Nut Falls. The attraction will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for the holiday.

Chimney Rock State Park
Elevator Out of Service Until Further Notice

Completion of the elevator repair project was affected by the October 23 landslide, so the elevator will be out of service until further notice. These issues are being addressed by engineers and other specialists so that service can be safely restored to the public. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please note that visitors can still access the top of Chimney Rock by climbing the staircases of the Outcroppings Trail. This 0.2-mile trail leads hikers through a rugged boulder field with dramatic views of Lake Lure, Hickory Nut Gorge, and Chimney Rock itself.

Lake Waccamaw State Park
A portion of Lake Shore Trail is now open!

Good news! We have been working diligently to open up the Lakeshore Trail. Lakeshore Trail from the Visitor's Center to Campsite 4 is once again open. The park staff are still working on the trail from campsite 4 to the Dam. The trail from campsite 4 to the Dam is a work in progress. Please be patient. Construction has begun on the new boardwalk that was washed away by Hurricane Matthew last year. We are hoping to have the entire Lake Shore Trail open before Spring 2018.

Stone Mountain State Park
Park Closures, Family & Group Campground is OPEN.

The following facilities are CLOSED due to storm damage:
-The trail/stairs from the top of Stone Mountain Falls to the bottom of the falls 
-The trail from the summit of Stone Mountain down to the gravel access road of the Hutchinson Homestead 
- Backpack campsites E & F
Thank you for your patience as we work to get these areas cleared for use again.  We will update our website as soon as these areas open.

Mayo River State Park
Stars and Planets program rescheduled for Sunday, November 19th.

Due to cloudy weather with signifigant wind gusts,  the Saturday November 18th Stars and Planets has been moved to Sunday November 19th at 6 pm.  If you are attending, please dress warmly as the predicted low for Sunday night is 28 degrees Fahrenheit.

Boat ramps

Please use extreme caution when using the boat ramps at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area as the lake levels are low and can create hazards while loading and unloading water craft.
