While Kron is remembered best as the first medical doctor to serve the Uwharrie Mountain region, he also helped the community in many other roles and capacities. Come join park staff for an open tour of the homesite from 2pm-3pm. Drop ins are welcome!

Migratory Bird Day Walk
Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a guided walk at Morrow Mountain State Park. We will test our knowledge of birds by identifying and counting them for an eBird checklist. Field guides and local bird lists will be available for identification. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Be prepared to hike approximately one mile over uneven ground. We will meet at the Boathouse and Fall Mountain Trail parking lot. Beginners are welcome to attend!

Join park staff for a guided tour of the historic Dr. Francis Kron homesite. Renowned as the first medical doctor of the Uwharrie Mountains, Francis Kron also served his community in other capacities. Reflect on his life and the Kron family's lasting legacy on Morrow Mountain State Park and the surrounding area. Drop-ins are welcome!
Morrow Mountain Bird Walk (GBBC)
February 17, 2025, 9am - 10am
Celebrate the wide world of birds by attending a guided bird count with park staff. All data goes toward the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Be prepared to hike approximately one mile distance on the Fall Mountain Trail over mostly flat ground along the Lake Tillery shoreline. Limited binoculars available. Bring your own if you have them. A bird checklist and field guides will be available for participants.
All are welcome but some birdwatching experience is suggested. Meet at the Lake Tillery/Boathouse parking lot.

National Walk Your Dog Day Hike

Attention all Bark Rangers: Today is National Walk Your Dog Day!
Show your appreciation for “Man’s Best Friend” by taking them on a guided hike on the Three Rivers Trail. This trail is approximately one mile long with beautiful views of the Confluence of the Yadkin-Pee Dee rivers. Meet at the trailhead located in the Boathouse parking lot.

Francis Kron is renowned as the first medical doctor of North Carolina’s Southern Piedmont. Delve deeper into the life of this fascinating man and his legacy left at Morrow Mountain State Park. Guided tours will be available of the structures and grounds. Drop-ins are welcome!
A small parking lot is available nearby. The Kron House can be reached by a short walk up a flight of stairs.

First Day Hike 2025

Join a park ranger for a First Day Hike on Sugarloaf Mountain hiking trail. Come out to Morrow Mountain State Park on New Year’s Day to get your wellness goals started off on the right foot. Join a park ranger for a guided hike on the 3.3-mile moderate to strenuous Sugarloaf Mountain trail. Sugarloaf’s 850-foot summit is a fitting destination with expansive views stretching across the Uwharrie Mountains, Lake Tillery, and beyond.
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather including sturdy hiking shoes and bring water to drink. The trailhead is located at the Bridle trail parking area,
