Re-charge your creative "bat-teries" by joining a Ranger at the Visitor Center for a crafting session focused on our native flying mammal: bats. 
September 8, 2025, 7pm - 8pm
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED Meet a Ranger at the Campground Contact Station for an evening hike. Bring a flashlight (preferably with a red lamp) and whatever gear you need for approximately 2 miles of walking. There will be some steep sections of hiking, and most will be in low-light or dark conditions. To pre-register, contact either the park office at 336-957-8185 or email stone.mountain@ncparks.gov with a count of how many will be attending. There is no registration fee. Weather Permitting. 
September 7, 2025, 3pm - 4pm
Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike to see Stone Mountain Falls. Cascading over 200 feet from top to bottom, Stone Mountain Falls is the largest waterfall in the park. Meet at the Upper Trailhead Parking Area at 3:00PM for a challenge by choice hike down the wooden steps to the base of the waterfall. Weather Permitting.

Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike to view some of the park's most colorful residents - swallowtail, monarch, and fritillary butterflies are abundant right now in the park's wildflower fields! Meet at the Lower Trailhead Parking Area at 3:00PM for a stroll to the Hutchinson Homestead in search of our fluttery friends. Weather Permitting. 
The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation announced today that six division sites are celebrating their 50th anniversary as National Natural Landmarks (NNL) as designated by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation announced that Michael Wood is the new park superintendent at Stone Mountain State Park in Wilkes and Alleghany counties.
All North Carolina state parks west of Interstate 77 are closed through at least Oct. 31.
Crowders Mountain, Gorges, Grandfather Mountain and Lake Norman state parks, as well as Rendezvous Mountain, will reopen at least partially on Nov. 1.
