NO transportation is available. If you hike up, you must hike back down. The restaurant and gift shop will open later in May. Dates and times to be announced.
Access to the Park
The park is accessible from the Asheville side of the Blue Ridge Parkway only. North of the park, the Parkway is closed. There are no gas stations between Asheville & the park.
Mount Mitchell State Park reopened Sept. 15, 2025, for the first time since Hurricane Helene. The reopening coincides with the Blue Ridge Parkway reopening between milepost 382 in Asheville and milepost 355.3, near the entrance to the state park. With this announcement, all North Carolina state parks are now at least partially open.
