Due to staffing changes, lifeguards will not be on duty Saturday and Sunday 8/9 - 8/10/2025 then on duty weekends only through Labor Day, Monday 9/1/2025.
Ferry Service and Bear Island Camping Closed Due to Effects from Hurricane Erin.
Due to high surf and over wash from Hurricane Erin, ferry service and Bear Island campsites will be closed at least through Thursday 8/21/25. Staff monitoring conditions.
The public comment period for the 2025-2030 NC Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) is open.
Ferry service, bathhouse, and concessions at Bear Island are closed 8/20-8/21/2025. Bear Island camping closed through 8/22/2025, due to high surf and erosion from Hurricane Erin. The mainland areas and trails are open. The boat ramp is open, and the Simmons Mainland Campground is open for reservations. There is no public docking on Bear Island and there is no beach access on the mainland.
