Drop by our staffed table at the Iron Ore Belt Access between 11am-2pm to learn more about North Carolina State Symbols, then enjoy a walk while reading "Plott's Tales and Trails: Aventuras with Carolina," posted November 22-30 along the Iron Ore Pit Trail.

This bilingual (English & Spanish) educational adventure follows two new friends, a Plott Hound named "Plott" and a Monarch Butterfly named "Carolina," as they journey across North Carolina to learn about science, natural resources, history, and each other! Activity pages incorporated into the storyline make this an interactive learning experience for all ages and ideal for learners in 1st-5th grades.

This StoryWalk is presented by Haw River State Park as part of North Carolina State Parks' Annual Theme, "The Year of North Carolina's State Symbols" (2025). Begin at the trailhead and walk the Iron Ore Pit Trail, marked with blue hexagons. Follow the pages and the signs.

"Plott's Tales and Trails: Aventuras with Carolina" was written by the Education and Outreach Team of the North Carolina Department of Natural & Cultural Resources with help from teachers and librarians across North Carolina; it was illustrated by Alexa Chumpitaz. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont.
