Join us at Merchants Millpond State Park for another summer full of adventures!

On Monday, June 9th, Ranger Cody will be showing us the marvelous menagerie of macroinvertebrates we have here at the Millpond! Some people think these tiny creatures are insignificant, but they play a vital role in their ecosystem. From serving as food sources for other animals, to going hand-in-hand with water quality, aquatic macroinvertebrates play an important role in the environment. Come see some ways macroinvertebrates play their part in the world we live in!

This program will start at 10:00 AM sharp at the visitor center auditorium and last for about an hour. We will meet for a brief lecture before heading down to the boat launch to sample the area for macroinvertebrates and also test water quality. While getting wet is not required, it is certainly possible with the type of fieldwork we will be doing, so guests are encouraged to bring waterproof shoes, or at least a backup pair of shoes, socks, and possibly shorts. Parents are asked to help monitor their children, particularly if they don't want them getting wet!

Summer is a great time to see the different areas of Merchants Millpond, so we encourage guests to hike the trails for themselves. We also have a small scavenger hunt set up for those who are interested, so grab a list and go see what you can find!
