You are invited to join Ranger Buie for a drop-in event dedicated to observing and counting migrating hawks. This event will take place at the Fire Tower, located along the Moore's Wall Loop Trail. The Fire Tower is accessible via a 1.8-mile hike from the Lake Parking Lot and provides a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape—ideal for bird observation.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by at any time throughout the day to learn about the various raptor species that migrate through North Carolina.
This is the peak migration period for Broad-winged Hawks, making it an excellent opportunity for viewing.
Please bring binoculars and a camera, and feel free to stay for as little or as long as you wish.
Note: In the event of rain, this program will be cancelled. Registration is optional. For additional information, email Jonathan.buie@ncparks.gov.
