State parks across the nation are offering First Day Hikes as a way to promote healthy lifestyles and year-round recreation at America's state parks. State parks are a "close to home" resource and an important part of our national fabric, enhancing our quality of life. We hope this hike inspires you to make state parks a regular part of your exercise routine and your life.
Join a park ranger for an informative discussion about the park's history while the group strolls up the 3.2-mile entrance road. Usually restricted only to vehicle traffic, there will be no cars in your way up the road if you show up for this special, early morning, FREE entry! Park at Chimney Rock Village and start at the new bridge at 8:00 a.m. Cross over the bridge over the Rocky Broad River and continue your hike through history until you reach the top. Start year off right by exploring the progression of Chimney Rock State Park during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hike the old motor road!
Please note that due to the road conditions post Hurricane Helene, attendees will have to come from US 64/74-A from Rutherfordton or from NC-9 from Columbus. Roads from Hendersonville and Asheville remain under construction and can only be used by local traffic.
