Dismal Swamp State Park, located in Camden County along North Carolina’s northeast border with Virginia, offers a gateway to the Great Dismal Swamp—the largest remaining swamp in the eastern U.S. This unique landscape is rich with plant life, wildlife, and cultural history, from George Washington’s surveys to the Underground Railroad and Prohibition-era stories. Paddle the historic 22-mile Dismal Swamp Canal, a favorite for kayakers and home to the annual Paddle for the Border event. Whether you're drawn by nature, history, or adventure, there’s always something new to discover. What will you explore at Dismal Swamp?
