Looking for a fun and family-friendly activity to kick off your holiday weekend? Come join us for Free Fishing on Friday, July 4th!

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission allows NC residents to fish public waters without a state fishing license during this one day of the year. State fishing licenses are usually required for anyone who is 16 years and older. We will be offering poles and tackle to borrow from our Boathouse (limited supply), and park staff will be present to provide assistance if needed.

Preregistration is encouraged in order to guarantee equipment; otherwise, fishing poles

Batman may not have super powers like Superman, but did you know his inspiration does? Join staff as we use our super brains to learn all about the bats that call the park home! Together, we’ll discover cool facts about these unique and mysterious creatures and uncover their real life super powers! Meet at the picnic shelter.
June 28, 2025, 9am - 10am
Come spend some time at Rendezvous Mountain walking the Forest Ridge Trail!  This is an informal program geared towards families with children ages four to eight as we’ll be reading "The Very Impatient Caterpillar".  Park Tech Abbie will be leading the 0.6 mile walk at 9:00am.

Join Park Tech Abbie at 1:00pm in learning a brief history of charcoal drawing while making charcoal sticks from start to finish over an open fire. You’ll then be able to use your charcoal sticks to create your own art!  This program is suitable for older children and adults.  Children and teens must be accompanied by a guardian.  To register for this event email abbie.bolinger@ncparks.gov.

Rangers often wear many hats throughout their day while they accomplish different tasks to help run the park. Join a Park Ranger to learn about what it means to be a park ranger in NC State Parks and check out some of the cool hats they wear! Meet at the picnic shelter.

The park is under attack, and we need your help! Join a Park Ranger while we go on the hunt to identify and map invasive species in the park! Be prepared to search high and low in the woods and hike roughly one mile using the Seek App on mobile devices.
