Visitor Center Park Attendant
William B. Umstead State Park seeks a visitor center park attendant to join our team. This position is an excellent introduction to working in parks and could be the perfect fit for someone looking for weekend work.
Weekend work is required: Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour lunch break. The position can work up to two additional weekdays, if interested. Holiday work is required. This is an 11-month term, with the possibility of rehire after a state-mandated separation.
Pay is $11 per hour.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have reliable transportation.
The person selected for this position will work in the visitor center as the public face of the park: greeting and assisting visitors, answering questions about trails and facilities, taking phone calls, and selling park merchandise. This position will also help with daily park operations by facilitating communication between visitors, park rangers, and maintenance staff. The visitor center park attendant is responsible for opening and closing the building and making sure it is secure. There will also be occasional light office work.
Skills and abilities
The right person for this position will have strong communication skills and will interact with visitors in a helpful and positive manner. Experience in customer service, education, retail, and/or reception would an asset. We hope to hire a quick learner who is enthusiastic about the park and able to share that excitement with the public.
