*PLEASE BE ADVISED: THERE WILL BE NO VEHICLE ACCESS TO THE VISITOR CENTER SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 15-MONDAY SEPTEMBER 16. 
THE VISITOR CENTER PARKING LOT WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO REPAVING.  PARKING WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE OVERFLOW PARKING LOT:  CORNER OF MCNEILL ST. AND FT. BRAGG RD.    ***BOYD TRACT AND PAINT HILL ACCESSES WILL REMAIN OPEN.

Observe plant and animal life along more than four miles of well-marked, easy-to-hike trails.
 


Bower's Bog Trail
Location: Trail starts at the Visitor Center

Description:

This looping nature trail skirts the edge of an upland bog filled with ferns, pitcher plants and shrubs.

Equestrian Trail
Location: Accessed from the corner of Bethesda Rd and Connecticut Ave or various intersections with the Holly Road Trail and the Pine Island Trail; there is no horse trailer parking available.

Description:

This trail loops through the northern half of the preserve.

Gum Swamp Trail
Location: Branches off Pine Barrens Trail

Description:

The trail passes through a stand of hardwoods and travels along the edge of a swamp where James Creek flows.

Holly Road Trail
Location: connects with Gum Swamp Trail and Pine Island Trail

Description:

The trail loops through the northern half of the preserve.

Lighter Stump Trail
Location: Connects Bower's Bog Trail with Pine Island Trail

Description:

This trail is bordered on one side by open stands of longleaf pine and a mix of hardwoods and lower wet areas on the other.
