Trails

Spring in the longleaf pine forests of Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve
Status of park facilities as of May 22   

Trails and restrooms at the park are open. The visitor center, classroom, and exhibits remain closed. 

When visiting, please follow social distancing guidelines, regardless of the behavior of others. Please try to stay 6 feet away from other visitors and park staff or wear a mask or face covering. Try to touch as few surfaces as possible and do not enter areas that have been closed off. Wash or sanitize your hands before, during, and after your visit, and stay home if you are sick.

Bower's Bog Trail
Location: Trail starts at the Visitor Center

Description:

This looping nature trail skirts the edge of an upland bog filled with ferns, pitcher plants and shrubs.

Equestrian Trail
Location: Accessed from the corner of Bethesda Rd and Connecticut Ave or various intersections with the Holly Road Trail and the Pine Island Trail; there is no horse trailer parking available.

Description:

This trail loops through the northern half of the preserve.

Gum Swamp Trail
Location: Branches off Pine Barrens Trail

Description:

The trail passes through a stand of hardwoods and travels along the edge of a swamp where James Creek flows.

Holly Road Trail
Location: connects with Gum Swamp Trail and Pine Island Trail

Description:

The trail loops through the northern half of the preserve.

Lighter Stump Trail
Location: Connects Bower's Bog Trail with Pine Island Trail

Description:

This trail is bordered on one side by open stands of longleaf pine and a mix of hardwoods and lower wet areas on the other.
