Hiking Trail

Horne Creek Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

This moderately sloped hiking trail begins at the picnic area and meanders along Horne Creek, where many varieties of spring wildflowers can be found. The trail then closely follows the Yadkin River until it meets up with the Bean Shoals Canal Trail. You can make a 3.5-mile loop by returning to the picnic area on the park road.

 

Bean Shoals Canal Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

A moderately sloped trail on the north shore of the Yadkin River that begins at the turnaround parking area. Turning right when you reach the river, this trail weaves a railroad trestle, as well as along the ruins of the unfinished Bean Shoals Canal. Note: The railroad track is active. Use extreme caution when crossing.

 

Pilot Creek Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

This trail starts at Boyd Nelson Road and ends at the family campground, where you can connect to the Grindstone and Mountain Trail to make a long loop around the mountain. The trail crosses tributaries of Pilot Creek and ascends through pine oak/heath forest to the campground. This trail was built by the friends group, Friends of Sauratown Mountains, at no cost to the park. A parking lot is located on Boyd Nelson Road. Parking at the campground is prohibited.

Mountain Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

A moderate rolling trail that connects to the Grindstone Trail to complete a 6-mile loop. Trail starts across the road from the park office and is to the left. Parking for this trail is at the park office. The Mountain Trail can also be accessed from the Pinnacle Hotel Road parking lot.

 

Ledge Spring Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

A very challenging trail with rocks, varying slope and 1,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. The spring is just a trickle of water, but the walk below the cliffs is beautiful. The trail travels along the foot of the cliffs and ledges to the west of the Little Pinnacle. To complete the trail, you will cross the parking lot. The trail is easier to begin below the summit picnic area and to end below Little Pinnacle at the Jomeokee Trail.

 

Jomeokee Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

A moderate trail with rock steps. The trail crosses the gap to the Big Pinnacle, then makes a loop around the base and merges into the same trail to return across the gap. There are rare and interesting plants along this trail, as well as the tall, impressive cliff. This trail starts at the upper side of the summit parking area.

 

Grindstone Trail

1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle

A moderately sloped trail through the woods to the summit parking area. Trail starts across the road from the park office and is to the right. Trail continues up through the woods to a rock building, where you will cross the main park road and hike out past the campground, where trail climbs the mountain through the woods to the summit. Trail joins the Ledge Springs Trail in last half mile, past the picnic area to the summit parking area. Vegetation on this trail changes with elevation. Parking for this trail is at the park office.
