S.O.S. - SAVE OUR SHORTLEAF!

Help Pilot Mountain save our Shortleaf Pines! Since 1980, there has been a 53% decrease in Shortleaf pine in the southeast. Volunteer with NC Park Rangers at a new section of park! Help establish it back into shortleaf pine habitat! We will be planting 3,000 pines in over 30 acres of land! Since shortleaf pine habitat typically has a lower canopy cover and a more diverse understory, dominated by grasses and forbs, a greater number of bird and animal species are found when compared to pine-oak forests! Tools will be provided. Plan to bring your own lunch and favorite work gloves! During lunch we will give a short talk on Shortleaf pine habitat (3 hrs) Pre-registration required - please email Pilot.Mountain@ncparks.gov with your intent.

Saturday, January 13, 2018 - 11:00am
