Microfishing at Bean Shoals - Catching Diversity and Understanding Habitat Preference

2018 is the Year of the Fish with North Carolina State Parks! Join park rangers at Pilot Mountain State Park to learn about the diversity of fishes in our local streams by exploring the old Japanese traditional micro-fishing method, Tanago. The object of micro-fishing is not to catch the largest fish, but use small tackle to catch a diversity of very small fish. Many fish throughout the creeks, streams, lakes, and waterways in North Carolina have beautiful coloration and diversity, but are too small for the normal angler to catch. Catching these fish in different micro-habitats within the stream will help us learn more about their behavior and habitat! Join us to learn more about fish diversity in North Carolina and have fun catching fish!
Meet at the picnic area just past the second creek crossing within Bean Shoals Canal Access of Pilot Mountain State Park. For directions, visit our website.
