Explore, learn and help out your state parks! Activities are geared for children ages 6-12 and include environmental education, interpretation of the area’s natural resources, and responsible recreation. Junior Rangers help park rangers take care of the park's natural resources, follow park rules to stay safe and teach their friends and family what they learn about the park and natural world.

Underwater Discovery

New River State Park

What lies below the not so briny depths of the New River? Come and find out. Join staff to take a peak below the surface. Put on a snorkel and peer at the plants and animals that live in the river. Fish, insects, algae, and so much more lie just below the surface.

"100 Mile Challenge" Hike

Need to add a few miles to you log? Join a State Ranger at the visitor center off of Highway 221 I the New River State Park for a 2.4 mile hike. It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes, dress according to the weather for the day and bring water. Don't forget to log your hike, if you are working towards you 100 miles in the 100 -mile challenge.

Aquatic Sampling

Join a park ranger at New River State Park’s US Hwy 221 Access, for hands on search for aquatic insects in the New River. Participants must wear shoes and come prepared to get wet. Bring some sun screen and a towel.
