Finally, It’s Here!

Spring has come to the mountains!

The sky is Carolina Blue with a few white, fluffy clouds. The snow is melting and the temperatures are getting just right for a visit to Mount Jefferson State Natural Area.
The trees are beginning to bud, the grass is turning green and soon there will be newborn animals everywhere!

Memorial Day Hike

Meet the ranger for a steep challenging hike to the Mt. Jefferson Summit 4683 ft. above sea level. We will be hiking up a steep gravel WPA road that was first built in 1939. As we hike we will stop and read short quotations that will focus on Memorial day. 922

Meet the park ranger for a spring hike. We will follow the path along the ridge toward the outcrop know as Luther Rock. Our hike will be located 4000 feet above sea-level. We hope to see a few spring leaves and perhaps the White Blood Root flower blooming along the trail side. bring a jacket and a camera. 922  

Climate Tower Program & Hike

Meet the park ranger at the Mt. Jefferson picnic area for a hike up to the NC Climate Tower. The tower is located on the mountain summit 4683 feet above sea-level. During our hike we will discuss how climate differs from weather, and will explore some of the ways that the Appalachian Mountains are interconnected with climate.

Luther Rock Nature Hike

Don’t overlook the Overlooks

The distance between the mountain top and town below is about 500 meters or 1600 feet. Either way it’s an amazing view on this mountain. Geology Hike
