2018 is the “Year of the Fish” for North Carolina State Parks.  A park ranger will demonstrate how to repair a damaged fishing pole and even how to create your own fishing pole from scratch!  This program is for all ages.

NOTE: PROGRAM IS AT BEAR ISLAND CONCESSION STAND.  YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A FERRY TICKET TO ATTEND PROGRAM.

Are you looking to expanding your outdoor recreational experiences?  Come out to the park to learn and discuss about basic paddling safety.  This ranger-led talk will show you what to do when you have an emergency on the water.

A Marsh Life

Join a ranger on Bear Island to look, listen, and feel about why the coastal marsh habitat is so important and so unique!  We will talk about some of the plants and animals that can be found there including crabs, “spitting” oysters, “dead man’s fingers”, and much more!

Camping on Bear Island

Bear Island has 14 designated campsites available to the public but no instruction manual on exactly HOW to camp there!  Come out to the park to learn and discuss with a ranger about some of the “suggestions” that can make your experience better.  We will also discuss great ways to prepare food while in our “front country, back country”.

Preparing the Catch

Whether you have been on the water fishing or purchased freshly caught local seafood there are many ways to prepare the catch to eat!  Join a ranger for this program in which we learn how to cook a fish that is sure to satisfy any palate!

NOTE: Program is at Bear Island Concession Stand. (Ferry ticket purchase is required to attend this program).
