According to an REI article, packing can be broken down into three zones, plus peripheral storage:
Visualize stacking cordwood. You’re laying down rows, not building columns: Fill nooks and crannies until you have a solid, stable load—and be sure weight is equally balanced on each side. Tighten compression straps to streamline your load and prevent it from shifting as you hike.
*MEET AT WEYMOUTH CENTER: 555 E. CONNECTICUT AVE. Join a ranger for a 1-mile hike through the old growth Long Leaf Pine, and hear about the history of the property. We will also be visiting some of the restoration sites located in the forest.
Come to Medoc Mountain State Park and enjoy a leisure hike through the woods by the light of the full moon. Participants will hike various park trails and enjoy the sights and sounds of the night. Join us on a 1.5-mile guided hike on the Paint Hill tract to find the rare Sandhills Pyxie-moss, a species only known to exist in a handful of counties in the Carolinas! Typically, our first spring bloomer, we may get a sneak preview of the wildflower season to come. We will meet at the visitor center and carpool over to the other site, just a mile and a half down the road.
Enjoy a boat ride over to Bear Island and learn about one of North Carolina's hidden treasures. You will be able to explore and discover about some of nature's wonders and maybe even collect some beach souvenirs! DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!

NC State Parks has joined the initiative to get women and girls on trails all across North America. Over the next year we want to encourage women to bring female friends and family to hike a trail at least once a month.
