There's something for everyone

From fishing lessons to astronomy programs, from tree identification hikes to kite workshops, our parks offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration.

With the inlets always changing, so do the barrier islands.  Bodie Island today extends to include the area of Jockey's Ridge.  Join us for a presentation on these changes and the history of Bodie Island.  Meets at the Jockey's Ridge State Park visitor center.

If you're looking to get a bit of exercise before Thanksgiving dinner, get out of the kitchen and into the woods! There's no football or pumpkin pie for the wildlife outside, so join a park ranger for a 2-mile hike to see what's happening in nature on this holiday. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and dress for the weather.

Many begin their venture to the dunes along the park's boardwalk. Join us for a short walk to view flora and fauna along this route and see where the dunes begin.

Come burn you turkey off on a Lassiter Trail hike.  Meet the Park Ranger at the picnic area.  Lassiter trail is a 5 mile loop.  Do to the length it will be shortened to about 45 minutes out and 45 minutes back. Enjoy the fall foliage.

Hike away those holiday calories!  Join Park staff at Pettigrew State Park for a leisurely walk and learn about some of the park's interesting features.  Meet at the park office at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 24th. Call the park office for more information (252)797-4475.

Today is a great day to go outdoors, explore nature, and walk on a mountain top. Meet the ranger or a hike along the ridge of mount Jefferson. Breath in some wild nature. This will be a one-mile hike and will include local history, stories, and hopefully awesome vistas. 922
