Hwy 50 Boat Ramp is currently closed due to high water level.

Normal winter seasonal closures are as follows:
Sandling Beach day-use area is closed from October 1 until April 1.
Holly Point family campground is closed from November 1 until March 15.
BW Wells group campground is closed from December 1 until March 15.

Falls Lake State Recreaton Area offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.
Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.
Join a ranger on a 2 mile round trip moderate hike on the Mountains to Sea trail to burn off some of that Thanksgiving feast and gain some knowledge about the geology of the local area too. On this hike, we will see and learn about a few unique geological features present at Falls Lake including a stop at a bluff along the edge of the lake. Bring plenty of water and please wear closed toe shoes.
Join a park ranger for a hike and learn how to ID different birds along the trail. Bring water and be prepared for the weather.

May to August: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Closed Christmas Day
All campgrounds at Falls Lake State Recreation Area now offer 24-hour access during that campground's operating season.
