Events and Programs
Mount Mitchell State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.
Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.
Meet with a ranger to learn about the natural and cultural history behind the Highest Peak East of the Mississippi.
Meet park staff at the education classroom and learn to identify Lichens and the important role that Lichens play in an Alpine Forest. Be prepared for a short hike along the Balsam Nature Trail (Weather permitting).

Take a stroll with a ranger to learn about the beautiful wildflowers that are blooming here at Mt. Mitchell and a few species blooming on the Parkway. Be prepared for a short hike on the Balmsam Nature Trail.
Join a ranger to learn about the diversity of life found here at Mt. Mitchell State Park and what they eat and where you might be able to see these mysterious creatures.
