Primitive Backpack Sites E & F CLOSED   

Stone Mountain State Park's primitive backpack sites E and F along Widow's Creek Trail have been closed due to damage.  We appreciate your patience as we try to evaluate and reconstruct these sites to be reopened for your enjoyment.

Events and Programs

Stone Mountain State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful. ​

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.


Join a Ranger at the Garden Creek Baptist Church to take a moderate hike up to a moonshine still location. We'll talk about the history of moonshine in the area and see how it was made.

 Meet a Ranger at the Hutchinson Homestead (above the Lower Parking Lot) for a tour of the homestead buildings.

 Join a Ranger at the visitor center for a program that discusses various aspects of the white-tailed deer rut.  The program will cover physical and chemical changes that take place with bucks during the peak rut season and how these changes affect their behavior.  The program will last approximately 30 minutes.

Family & Group Campgrounds remain open after hours via the Royal Camp Ln Road.

Park Office
8am - 5pm daily, except closed weekends December - February.
Closed state holidays.

Year-round, from 7am until park closes.

Picnic Shelter
Shelters close 30 minutes before park closes.

Exhibit and Historic Site
Exhibits: open during park office hours.
Homestead site: open weekends, May through October. Visitors are welcome to walk the homestead site grounds when the site is not open.
Garden Creek Baptist Church historic site: services are held at 9am every Sunday, May - October and first Sunday, November - April. Visitors are welcome to walk the church grounds when the church is closed.
