Memorial Weekend Beach/Day Use Areas    

  You should expect, and plan for, traffic congestion and delays when driving to the park. Once all parking spaces are full, additional cars will not be allowed into Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. The best time to come is normally early in the morning or late in the afternoon and carpool as much as possible. Bring all food, drinks, and recreational equipment into the park with you.  If you leave the park to purchase soft drinks, lunch, or other items, you may not get back into the park when you return. Do not attempt to park outside of Jordan Lake State Recreation Area and then walk into the park.  Pedestrians will not be allowed into the park. Do not park your vehicle in the “No Parking” zones posted around Jordan Lake.   Law enforcement officials will be enforcing parking violations through fines and by towing illegally parked vehicles.

Vista Point Closure - Ironman 70.3 Raleigh Triathlon    

Vista Point will be closed to the general public 5-31-18 through 6-3-18 for the Ironman 70.3 Raleigh Triathlon.  Please make plans to use other areas for boat ramps or hiking trails during this time.  Seaforth, Parker's Creek, New Hope and Ebenezer will be alternatives.

Events and Programs

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful. ​

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

 

    Catch a Sure Thing (C.A.S.T.) – We provide the bait, tackle, and expertise. You are encouraged to bring your own equipment. You provide a child between the ages of 6 and 12 who wants to go fishing.  This program is limited to groups of 6 children.  They will learn how to bait a hook, types of fish found in the lake, and if willing how to unhook a fish! (Hands on Activity ●Group size ≤ 6 ●Ages – 6-12 ● Length – 2 hours) Please call the park office at 919 362-0586 ext. 213 to register your child. Please leave the child's name and a parent or guardian's name and contact number. Spaces are limited. The program will be held every Saturday from June 2-October 27 with some exceptions. No CAST programs with be offered on June 30, July 7 and September 1.

Did you say Bald Eagles?  Did you know Jordan Lake is home to numerous eagles.  If you would like to learn about this large raptor please join us for a talk about eagles and returning migrants that make the lake their home for the summer.  Doc Ellen and Ranger McMurray will be on hand using both talk, photos and mounts to showcase the diverse population of birds we have here at the lake.  After the talk, we will talk a short walk behind the visitor center to observe the trees and skies for our feathery friends. Closed Christmas Day

Jordan Lake's day use area gates and campground gate open and lock promptly at posted times. No entry or exit is permitted before or after posted gate hours except for law enforcement or medical emergencies.

Closed on November 23, November 24, December 25, 26 and 27 for the holidays.
