Get Outside During the Great American Backyard Campout June 27
RALEIGH -- Join thousands of campers across the country for the fifth annual Great American Backyard Campout June 27, an opportunity to sleep under the stars and share campfire stories and smores. Special events in North Carolina state parks support this summertime tradition sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.
Camp at Medoc Mountain State Park in Halifax County and enjoy a campfire sing-along and nighttime stargazing programs arranged by park rangers. At Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in Chatham County, there will be an outdoor movie viewing, a 'Tiny Critters Safari' and an evening astronomy session conducted by the Morehead Planetarium.
And, there are free interpretive programs at most state parks and state recreation areas every weekend that can round out a family camping trip, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation.
The National Wildlife Federation offers camping tips, campfire recipes and other fun camping ideas at its Web site, www.backyardcampout.org. Find dozens of great places to camp and explore the outdoors by visiting the North Carolina state parks system's Web site at www.ncparks.go.
