Flight of the American Woodcock

Witness the amazing courtship flight of the American Woodcock. Also learn about its life history, and some cool facts about this unique woodland shore bird that is rarely seen. This bird is perfectly camouflaged and rarely heard. The exception occurs in late winter and early Spring when the male birds perform dizzying courtship displays. Strutting his dance moves on the ground and in the air, a male Woodcock will serenade several on looking females. This stage act is taking place all over the farm fields of eastern U.S. from the Wisconsin sand-hills to the Gulf of Mexico, and you are invited.
Be prepared to spend at least 20 minutes outside in the cold air and dark skies.
