Volunteer Work Day Helps Clear Little Fishing Creek

Tuesday, August 29, 2017 - 4:13pm
Volunteers at Medoc Mountain State Park (John Dixon)

A group of volunteers spent a rainy Saturday morning clearing fallen debris from Little Fishing Creek.  The creek work day was arranged by Keith Cooper, a key member of the Friends of Medoc, as a way to assist the park with ongoing creek blockage concerns. The group was able to clear obstructions that caused pile-ups over approximately 500 feet of the creek, downstream from Medoc State Park Road.  Park staff assisted in the days before by cutting large logs and trees into smaller, more manageable, pieces for removal. The work day was such a success that a second volunteer work day is being planned for September-- details will be posted soon.  Local reporter John Dixon from the Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald was also in attendance and published an article on the event, which can be read by clicking here.
