Closures due to flooding 03/01/2021   

Due to river flooding the following areas are closed to the public:

-Campsites PA 7,PA 8 
-Naked Landing Trail at Princess Ann access
-Mill Hole Trail at Princess Ann access

Other areas of the park may close to the public if flood waters continue to rise.  These areas will reopen to the public once flood water recedes and park staff deem them safe to use.

Current status of park facilities   

Trails, boat ramps, and restrooms are open. Park hours are 8:00am to 8:00pm until further notice.

The park office at Princess Ann access is open on weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A properly worn mask or face covering, covering both the nose and the mouth, is required to enter the park office. The restrooms at the park office are closed.

The picnic shelter is closed. Wire Pasture access remains closed.

Campsites are open, including group campsites. Reservations must be made online or by calling 1-877-722-6762.

Please note that this alert is updated only when something changes. Generally, state parks are following the phased reopening statewide. As of October 3, we are following modified Phase 3.

Not all campsites have identical amenities. Read the campsite information on the reservations website to see photos of campsites; check availability and fees; find out whether a specific site is wheelchair accessible, has access to water, bathouses or pit toilets, or has electric hookup; and learn other important information.


Tent camping

23 primitive campsites, nine at Princess Ann and fourteen at Chalk Banks. One site at each access area is wheelchair accessible.

A maximum of six people is allowed per site. Each site has a table, fire pit with a grill, lantern holder and trash can. All fires must be contained in the pit. Permits for camping are required.


Group camping

Group campsites are available by reservation for verifiable, affiliated groups only. If not reserved, they can be used on a first-come-first-served basis.

There is one group site at each of the access areas. The maximum number of people allowed at Princess Ann is 20 and the maximum allowed at Chalk Banks is 35.

An overflow area is located at Princess Ann and it will hold up to 50 people.

Each site includes picnic tables, a grill, lantern holders, trash cans, and a fire pit with a grill. All fires must be contained in the pit. Checkout time is 3 p.m.


NOTE – Gate access for campers:

Park gates are closed and locked at posted closing times for your protection. There will be no exiting or entering the gates after the closing time. All visitors who are not spending the night need to be out by closing time. If you leave the park and do not return before closing time, you will not be able to re-enter. Check with the park office during office hours for the after-hours emergency phone number.
