GPS sending you through the Green Swamp.

It seems that some GPS systems do not give actuate directions to our park. If the directions that the GPS give you advise you to drive though the Green Swamp then there is a possiblity that you will get stuck in the mud. If you are following the GPS directions and it has you turn off on to a dirt road. Stop! Do Not continue. The best directions will keep you on paved roads. See Driving Directions below.

Construction at the Dam

There is still construction going on at the Dam. It is getting closer to the completion of the Walking bridge that goes over the Dam. I know we can not wait to be able to utilize the new bridge. We are in the process of clearing more of the area between the Dam and Campsite 4 on the Lakeshore Trail. So once the Walkway is complete everyone will be able to cross over and have access to the park. Unfortunetly Golf carts will not have access to the bridge, it will be for walking only, even bicycles will need to be walked accross the bridge.

Events and Programs

Lake Waccamaw State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

Have you ever wanted to learn about snakes in our area? The presentation will give an introduction to snakes and how many are estimated in the USA, and NC.   Participants will also learn about the 37 species of native snakes to NC and the differences between them.  Such differences include egg layers vs. live births and venomous vs. nonvenomous.  Also snake safety and identification tips will also be discussed along with interesting myths about our scaly friends.
