Swim beach bathrooms closed   

The bathrooms at the swim beach area are closed due to a broken water line. The bathrooms at Shortleaf Drive are the closest facilities to the beach.

Current Status of Park Facilities   

The Visitor Center is open from 9am-5pm daily.

The Visitor Center, restrooms, Lake Shore trail, and most reservable facilities are currently open. 
Bike trails are open weather permitting.

Please continue to follow social distancing guidelines throughout the park, regardless of the behavior of others.

Dragonfly Trail

The Dragonfly Trail at Lake Norman State Park

With the trailhead near the visitor center, the Dragonfly trial is ideal for all ages. This path is completely paved and easily accessible to wheelchair and stroller. This .15-mile trail (round-trip) has various nature displays along the way. Interactive lift-and-drop panels provided interesting and fun facts about the plants and animals found at Lake Norman State Park!

  • From the intersection of Old Mountain Road and East Monbo Road in the Troutman area, travel south approximately 4.3 miles on East Monbo Road to St. Johns Road. Turn left onto St. Johns Road and go 0.5. mile to State Park Road. Follow the signs for the campgrounds.

  • Canoes, pedal boats, kayaks, and paddleboards are available for rent daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The boats are rented on a first-come, first-served basis and we are not able to reserve them.
