Scheduled events

Lake James State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

This boat tour will offer the chance to explore Lake James in a way never seen before: through the eyes of an underwater drone. We will descend into the depths to see what we can find at the lake’s deepest point and then search for the lost sunken town of Fonta Flora. The underwater drone that we will be using is a remotely operated vehicle complete with cameras that will give a first-person viewpoint of a landscape not seen since the lake was finished in 1923.Seating is limited for the program and is capped at five so pre-registration is a must.

Date of Event:
Fri, 09/30/2022 - 10:00am
Start Location:
East Picnic Shelter at Paddys Creek
