Water At Campsites    

Please be aware that the water at each individual campsite at the Crosswinds Campground will be turned off Monday, November 18, 2019 due to freezing temperatures.  Water is available at the outside spigots at each shower house in all loops.

Scheduled events

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful. ​

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

 

Explore bald eagle nest life and learn about proper Eagle Observation Etiquette so you can spot one of Jordan Lake’s many bald eagles without disturbing it.  Join Ranger McMurray and Doc Ellen for a bald eagle slide show presentation followed by a trek outdoors to look for bald eagles and other winter birds.  First part will be indoors rain or shine and second portion will be outdoors, please dress for the weather.  Visitor Center is located at 280 State Park Rd, Apex NC 27523.  For any questions, contact steve.mcmurray@ncparks.gov

    Catch a Sure Thing (C.A.S.T.) – We provide the bait, tackle, and expertise. You are encouraged to bring your own equipment. You provide a child between the ages of 6 and 12 who wants to go fishing.  This program is limited to groups of 6 children.  They will learn how to bait a hook, types of fish found in the lake, and if willing how to unhook a fish! (Hands on Activity ●Group size ≤ 6 ●Ages – 6-12 ● Length – 1 1/2 hours) Please call the park office at 919 362-0586 ext. 218 to register your child. Please leave the child's name and a parent or guardian's name and contact number. Spaces are limited. The program will be held every Sunday from April 5th – August 30th.  Program time 9:00am-10:30am. 

No CAST programs offered on April 19th, May 24th, June 28th and July 5th.

Family Fishing Fiesta Outdoor Event

Ever wanted to learn how to fish or freshen up old skills? If so, this program is for you. Families will be introduced to fishing, aquatic education and water safety.  Activities will include knot tying, casting, fishing, and cleaning fish, as well as information on fish management, aquatic stewardship, boating and water safety, and fishing regulations. Spanish speaking families are encouraged to participate. All activities will be bilingual. There will be a limited supply of fishing poles to use and if you have one, bring it! The program is completely free and no reservations are required. You will learn other outdoor recreation opportunities that you can do while visiting Jordan Lake State Recreation area.  Food Trucks will be on hand or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy.  Sponsoring agencies: NC Wildlife Resources Commission, NC State Parks, US Fish and Wildlife Service and many more! Event will be held rain or shine.
