Current status of park facilities   

Trails and restrooms are open at The Summit and Iron Ore Belt access for day-use hiking and fishing.

The Summit Environmental Education and Conference Center is open to day-use groups of 25 or less by reservation.

The park office remains closed. Park staff will be available near the Summit restrooms to assist with park information, Passport stamps, and other questions.

When visiting, please follow social distancing guidelines regardless of the behavior of others. Please try to stay 6 feet away from other visitors and park staff or wear a face covering. Try to touch as few surfaces as possible and do not enter areas that have been closed off. Wash or sanitize your hands before, during, and after your visit. Please stay home if you are sick.

Please note that this alert is updated only when something changes. Generally, state parks are following the phased reopening statewide. As of October 3, we are following modified Phase 3.

Digital Day Camp

Haw River State Park is excited to announce a new summer camp option for 2020 — our Digital Day Camp! This new virtual program will allow kids to enjoy our summer educational programs from the safety and comfort of their own home. From July 20, 2020 to July 24, 2020, there will be a program targeted towards students in kindergarten to 4th grade (Tuesday and Thursday), and one for middle school students (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).

Summer Camp Information

Come to Haw River State Park for summer fun and adventure! The Summit Environmental Education Staff at Haw River lead participants in many amazing park adventures. Each week has a theme on which programming will focus. The Day Camps are for children who will be rising 2nd to 5th graders. We offer Haw River Adventure Camp for 6th-8th graders. Our Grand Camps are for grandparents who would like to come to summer camp with a grandchild or two, or for children who would like to bring their grandparents to camp. These are our only residential camps.

Summer Day Camp Daily Schedule:

8:30am to 9:00am – Early arrivals
9:00am to 4:00pm – Programmed activities
4:00pm to 4:30pm – Extended hours

Participants will be asked to bring a bag lunch/water bottle each day. Water will be available to the students at lunch and for the breaks. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Please be sure to inform us concerning any dietary needs, such as food allergies upon registration.



Grand Camp Information

This two-night, three-day camp will be for rising 2nd to 8th graders and their special grandparent(s). Some of the special activities include fun games for all ages, family projects, easy to moderate hiking, fishing, canoeing, and campfire fun! Daily activities will include pool time, art focus and restful free-time. All moderately strenuous activities will have an alternative program option. The overnight accommodation is a motel-style room.

Registration Information

Registration will begin by mail February 1st. Download the forms below and send it in by mail. A $40 non-refundable deposit will be due upon registration to secure a space for each participant.
