Sunny, Mandy and All the Ladies

John Muir once said, "Keep close to nature’s heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods." Perhaps a few hours in the woods is a good start? Despite cool temps and a few clouds, fun was had by all when Ranger Allcox recently led a Saturday Women's Hike at Haw River State Park. The group of seven women checked out the wetlands boardwalk, Piedmont Loop Trail and, Robin's Nest Lake. Joined by dogs, Sunny and Mandy, the group traversed 1.7 miles and enjoyed some of the best natural beauty North Carolina has to offer. The hike was a part of Blue Cross Blue Shield's Hike NC program. 

Hike NC - Children's Hike to the Wetlands

April is National Frog Month. Join a park ranger as we take the spur path to the wetlands boardwalk and hike to the Haw River. Once there we will look for frogs in their natural habitat and learn some frog-tastic fun facts. The hike is easy to moderate and takes approximately an hour to complete. Adults are more than welcome to walk with the ranger and learn about the history of the park or strike out on their own depending on walking speeds.  Date of Event: Saturday, April 21, 2018 - 2pm-3:30pm  Start: Main lodge at the Summit Environmental Education and Conference Center.
