Eastern Bluebird Hike

Prior to the 1930's, the Eastern Bluebird was one of North Carolina's most common songbirds.  By 1979, bluebirds were declared rare and uncommon by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Man's activities and severe winter's have resulted in a 90% decline in bluebird populations (reference, NC Bluebird Society, Inc.)  Visit with a ranger and find out what Haw River State Park staff are doing to help save these beloved birds as we check for nesting activity in the Bluebird boxes along the Robins Nest Lake Loop Trail.  In case of bad weather, or for more information about this hike or future programs, please contact the park office at 336-342-6163.
