Reservable Facilities

The lake swimming area will open for the season on Saturday, May 28. Due to staff shortages, the area will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer, but will be open Thursdays - Mondays. Canoe and stand-up paddleboard rentals will be available when the lake is open. Please contact the park for more information.

The park's main gate at Hanging Rock Park Road observes the following opening and closing hours:
- December to February:
7:00am to 7:00pm
- March to April:
7:00am to 9:00pm
- May to September:
7:00am to 10:00pm
- October:
7:00am to 9:00pm
- November:
7:00am to 8:00pm
- Closed Christmas Day
- Campers and cabin guests must arrive prior to the closing hour, after which the park gate is closed for the night.

All other accesses, including Lower Cascades, Tory's Den, Dan River access, climbing access, and mountain bike trails, observe the gate hours listed below. Please plan accordingly.

Hanging Rock State Park will not have boat rentals available in 2021. The concession stand is open when the swim beach is open.

In addition to campsites and cabins, you can reserve the following facilities at this park:
Picnic Shelters
Unreserved picnic shelters are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the shelters are very popular, so reservations are strongly suggested.
Picnic Shelter #1, located above the lake parking area, has two fireplaces and grills. It accommodates up to 96 people. Drinking water and restrooms are nearby. This shelter is not handicap accessible.
Picnic Shelter #2, located at the lower picnic area off Window Falls Trail accessed from Visitor Center Drive, has one fireplace and grill. It accommodates up to 24 people. Drinking water and restrooms are nearby. This shelter is not handicap accessible.
Picnic Shelter #3, located at the lower picnic area off Window Falls Trail accessed from Visitor Center Drive, has one fireplace and grill. It accommodates up to 64 people. Drinking water and restrooms are nearby. This shelter is not handicap accessible.
Picnic Shelter #4, located right beside the lake parking area, has one grill and a water spigot. It accomodates up to 80 people. Restrooms are nearby. This shelter is ADA accessible and features accessible tables.
Auditorium
The auditorium accommodates 35 people and has video projection equipment. Water fountains and restrooms are nearby. No Wi-Fi. Reservations are required. $103/half day, $178/full day. Please call the park for more information.
Classroom
The classroom accommodates 12 people and has a sink and adjoining deck overlooking Moore’s Knob. Water fountains and restrooms are nearby. No wifi. Portable screen and projector are available. Reservations are required. $85/half day, $160/full day. Please call the park for more information.
