Events and Programs

Hanging Rock State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

An Environmental Educator will share several of nature’s marvels in a display table.  We will talk about how critters at the park are coping with the cold season.  And where are the bugs now?

Date of Event:
Sun, 12/10/2017 - 10:45am to 11:15am
Start Location:
Outside Visitor Center

Join a Park Ranger to learn how the habitat around us adapts to the cold without central heating.  Bring your jacket, hat, and gloves for the short walk to Upper Cascades Waterfalls.  We will discuss how local plant and animal life adapt to the weather.  There will be an explanation of migration, hibernation, denning, and which animals do each.

Start Location:
Outside of Visitor Center

Join an Environmental Educator on a leisurely hike (0.3 mile one-way) along the Upper Cascades Trail as we identify plants that maintain the Christmas “green” all year round.   We’ll enjoy a bit of music regarding evergreens as we observe nature’s holiday decorations.
