Hammocks Beach Updates - Hurricane Dorian

Hammocks Beach State Park mainland, visitor center, and TRACK Trail open, ferry service to resume Wednesday, September 11, 2019 after Hurricane Dorian.

The mainland area, visitor center, and the ½-mile TRACK Trail are open as of Saturday, September 7, 2019. Ferry service to Bear Island will resume on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, and camping will reopen on Monday, September 9, 2019. The kayak launch and boat launch are also open as of Monday, September 9, 2019. The park sustained some damage from Hurricane Dorian and park staff have worked diligently through the weekend to reopen all facilities. 

Ferry service to Bear Island will resume on Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Once resumed, the September ferry schedule will be Wednesday through Sunday hourly beginning at 9:30am with the last ferry departing Bear Island at 5:00pm.

Bear Island boardwalk closed

Beach access is gained at the end of the path. Please use caution as access is used by park vehicles entering and leaving beachfront.

Bear Island bathhouse open

The bathhouse with drinking water, restroom facilities, and showers for our campers will be open beginning September 9, 2019 daily through November 15, 2019. The bathhouse will be closed and winterized after November 15, 2019.

No lifeguards on duty

Swim at your own risk and use extreme caution as rip currents and strong currents can occur at any time.

Bear Island concession stand closed

The concession stand is closed for the 2019 season. Please bring any drinks and snacks with you when visiting Bear Island.     

Kayak launch and boat ramp reopened

The kayak launch and boat ramp have reopened as of Monday, September 9, 2019. In order to utilize the public boat ramp, a permit is required and can be obtained at the visitor center. Please note that all park vessels and emergency vessels will have priority use.

Huggins and Jones islands are open.

All camping has reopened.
